I think that this is a fantastic lense to view histroy John! I say lense only because I don't think a single definition or phenonmenon can define histroy for us. Personally I subscribe to a sort of critical lense, in that I use a variety of different lenses and theories applied to history. To me truth isn't found exlusively in dialectical analaysis, or exlusively in a class lense or gender lense or race lense, rather examining systems as a whole as well as individuals who help shape the systems and social constructs. I do think however what you've said really plays into the idea of how individuals in tandem (or in conflict) with the dominant social constructs of the time are an important part of the history making process.
